TIPS TO FRENCHIE GROOMING
Wrinkle cleaning: The wrinkles on your Frenchie are really the only items that require any extra attention than any other dog. Wrinkles are prone to becoming damp and can collect dirt and food. If not cleaned regularly, serious infections can happen.
Clean the wrinkles out at least once a week initially and vary depending on your dog’s needs. You can clean out the wrinkles with Baby Shampoo using a small soft-bristle toothbrush, dry with a towel then apply Desitin in the folds of the wrinkles (careful not to get in eyes). You can also use baby wipes daily to clean the wrinkles. A thin application of Vaseline into the wrinkles on a regular basis can prevent many problems.
Tear Stain Removal: There are many products that are sold to remove or prevent tear stains. The baby-rash ointment Desitin is commonly referred to as an alternative to these products. Spread Desitin along the length of the stain daily for two or three weeks and the stain should disappear. Use Desitin as a preventative with weekly wrinkle care.
Another home remedy is 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water, using cotton balls to apply, and rinse. With both treatments be sure to take care not to get in eyes.
Nose care: The nose can dry out occasionally. Best treatment is to regularly apply Vaseline to the nose in a thin layer. This will keep the nose dark and moist.
Ear & Nail Care: Frenchies ears can build up wax and cause discomfort. Use a canine ear wash at least once a month.
Generally, if you let your dog walk on cement paths regularly, the nails won’t need to be trimmed as often. But don’t let nails get too long or you will end up with serious problems.
